About Dr. Mac Nwosu

My interest in physical therapy started as an injured young athlete who spend countless hours in physical therapy to return to high school track and field and football. I graduated with a B.S. in Exercise Science from Texas Lutheran University, and then completed my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from University of North Texas Health Science Center.

After becoming a physical therapist, I worked in physical therapy clinics where I was required to see multiple patients at the same time, limiting me to 15 minutes with each patient before sending them off to do 30-45 minutes of exercise by themselves or with a technician.

I have witnessed patients come to physical therapy DOUBLE the amount of physical therapy visits than it should have taken to reach their goals. I decided, I could not watch patients slow down their recovery time in large physical therapy “mills.”

Out of annoyance with the way patients were being treated I founded Genesis Physio and Wellness. Everyday women in the Houston area consult me looking for ways to get back to their active lives faster.

My passion towards sports led me to become a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association. I have treated a wide range of orthopedic and sports conditions with a recent specific focus on women’s health including prenatal and postpartum wellness. I have spent majority of my career working with the athletic populations including adolescent, high school, collegiate and amateur athletes.

My drive for continued professional growth led me to… {or} My burning desire to be the best clinician I could be led me to seek post-professional training. My goal is to become a Board Certified Sports Specialist in Sports and Women’s Health. I completed Fellowship Training through the Institute for Athlete Regeneration and became a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists in 208. I am a member of the American Physical Therapy Association Sports and Women’s Health Section, Texas Physical Therapy Association, American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists

Dr. Mac Nwosu graduated from University of North Texas Health Science center with a Doctorate in Physical Therapy with a passion for helping women heal their bodies. He is experienced in treating a wide variety of patients and continues to treat typical orthopedic nd sports conditions. Although it is rewarding to treat a variety of patients and conditions, treating women, specifically prenatal and postpartum conditions has become a passion. In addition to a doctorate, Dr. Nwosu has pursued educational coursework including a Certificate of Achievement in Pregnancy/Postpartum Physical Therapy,  Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, Fellowship Training through the Institute for Athlete Regeneration and many others

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a prescription from my doctor?

Texas requires physical therapists to have a prescription from a qualified referral source  to provide treatment. Which means, I can perform an evaluation, but I am unable to perform treatment until you have a prescription.

However, if you are coming for a wellness or personal training appointment, a prescription is NOT needed.

Referral  sources include:

  • Physicians
  • Physician Assistant (PA-C)
  • Chiropractor
  • Advanced Nurse Practitioner
  • Certified Nursing Midwife (CNM)

You can have the prescription faxed to: 832-827-4013 and/or you can bring it with you to your first visit.

What can I expect on my first visit?

The first visit is the initial evaluation. This is where you give us all the details on what brings you in. I will ask questions to help get to the root of your symptoms, then perform an extensive examination to further define the origin of your impairment(s).

After the examination is completed, we will discuss an individualized plan. This includes the kind of treatments you would benefit from, how long it may take to see results, and what goals you want to achieve. If we have received a prescription for you from one of the above sources, and time allows, we can then proceed with treatment. At the end we will answer any more questions you may have, schedule additional visits if needed, and collect payment.

How long is each visit?

The first visit can range from 1-1.5 hours. Follow up visits can range from 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on the needs of each client.

What should I wear?

Comfortable, loose clothing will do! Something you will feel comfortable moving in. Tennis shoes are recommended, but not required. Once we determine your plan for treatment, clothing will be further discussed.

Do you take insurance?

Yes and No!

If you like a longwinded answer, keep reading:

We do not directly bill your insurance because this allows us the freedom to provide optimal treatment. However, we will give you all the resources to get reimbursed by your insurance company.

  • We can treat you untilyour symptoms are a thing of the past and you have achieved your goals
    • Insurance almost always has a limit on number of physical therapy visits you can have within a year
  • You will be one on one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy for ALL visits.
    • Unfortunately, due to low insurance reimbursement, many clinics have to operate by treating two or more patients at a time in order for their business to survive. This can be a stressful, ineffective, and inefficient way to treat clients
  • With one on one, direct care from a physical therapist, it is likely your symptoms will resolve at a faster pace as compared to receiving treatment alongside one or two additional clients to one therapist.
  • By not using your insurance, you may save money that you can spend on new boots for the fall..
    • If you have a high, unmet deductible with your insurance, the charges you receive from a physical therapy clinic for each visit will likely be higher than the cost of each visit with us.
  • Not billing insurance in this practice helps us help you help yourself. Everyone wins.

PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately, due to Medicare rules, we cannot accept any person carrying Medicare as their insurance at this time.

Can I submit a claim to my insurance

Absolutely! Upon request, we can give you a detailed bill that you can then submit to your insurance. Please contact your insurance company to find out the steps to take in this process as they are all different. (You should inquire about the process for an “out-of-network physical therapy provider.”) Reimbursement is unique to your insurance and where you stand with your deductible and out of pocket expenses, therefore, we have no say or guarantee that you will receive full reimbursement.

Pricing

After our initial evaluation, we will discuss your goals and determine how many sessions you need. That will determine your investment.
